January 18 2021: Gov.uk: Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Social care sector to receive £269 million to boost staffing levels and testing

The funding boost is designed to protect and support staff and residents in care homes and those receiving help in their own homes.

  • £149 million of this is the previously-announced funding to be used to increase the provision of regular lateral flow testing in care homes
  • £120 million is additional funding, announced today for the first time and is designed to help local authorities to boost staffing levels. The funding can:
    • provide additional care staff where shortages arise
    • support administrative tasks so experienced and skilled staff can focus on providing care
    • help existing staff to take on additional hours if they wish with overtime payments or by covering childcare costs
